Boss: "Credit Goes To The Players For Adjusting To Subtle Changes"

14 December 2020

David Artell says that his squad is showing real strength in depth after we extended our unbeaten run to three games in League One with a deserved 2-1 win over Northampton Town at the weekend.

Crewe won the game thanks to goals from Owen Dale and Ryan Wintle to take our unbeaten run to three matches in League One.

The Alex boss made three changes to the side that drew with Burton Albion with Oli Lancashire, Oli Finney and Charlie Kirk all earning recalls against Northampton Town.

Artell shows that the team can adapt to subtle changes both in personnel and tactically.

The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “I made three changes for the weekend and it shows the strength in depth we have. We also set up a bit differently from normal. It was a subtle change but a change nonetheless and the players got to grips of it really well after the opening 25 minutes when we began to get on top in the game.

“The players deserve the credit for that because it is all well and good, me and Kenny asking them to do something but they still have to go and deliver it.

“We can go through things and show them during the week but it still comes down to what they do at 3pm on Saturday or on a Tuesday night.

“It goes to show how much strength in depth we have with the three lads out for a considerable time, in Donervon, Callum and Josh. We were also without Chris (Porter) for family reasons and that was hardly mentioned.

“Not having Chris there was a big miss for us but we coped with it and still won the game, so it goes to show the strength we have. It is really pleasing and as I’ve said, we will need all of them at some point.”
