Sheridan Appointment Will Give Swindon A Real Lift

1 December 2020

Alex boss full of praise for Swindon's newly appointed boss John Sheridan

Swindon Town will be our visitors to Gresty Road this evening and boss David Artell says that it makes a ‘welcome change’ after getting through a tough period of four away games on the bounce.

Crewe won one of those away fixtures at Oxford United, but have been unable to follow that up with trips to Portsmouth and Accrington Stanley. Crewe were also beaten 2-1 by Cheltenham Town on Saturday after a 30 minute period of extra-time in the Emirates FA Cup.

Ahead of our first game since Peterborough on November 14th, David Artell told us: “It will make a nice chance to have a home game. I think we have done more miles on the road than Judith Chalmers lately.

“We have had four away games and have had to do some travelling, so it will be a good thing to be back at home.

“They have a new manager with John (Sheridan) going in there and they had a good win over their local rivals, Oxford on Saturday, so he has got in and got a response.

“I think they will be reinvigorated under John. He is an experienced manager and maybe he will provide the lift they need.

“They have good resources and good players at Swindon. He has plenty of options to choose from and I am sure they will be looking to impress their new manager, so it will be a tough game.

He added: “John was in charge of Wigan when we played them earlier in the season, so that will be an advantage for him. He would have seen what we did that day and know our strengths and weaknesses because of it – but he is with a different team now and at the end of the day it is 11v11 again and hopefully we can play as we did against Wigan and win the game.”
