Preview: A Short Trip To Burton Albion

4 December 2020

Crewe Alexandra will look to record back-to-back wins, as they travel to the Pirelli Stadium to play Burton Albion on Saturday.

The hosts have had a tough start to their campaign, currently sitting in the relegation places, with the club in 22ndplace in the Sky Bet League One table.

However, the Brewers have picked up four points from their last two games, beating Charlton at home, and drawing away at Sunderland.

Following Tuesday night’s comeback win against Swindon, Dave Artell and his side will look to keep the winning form going on Saturday.

Opposition: Burton Albion

Competition: Sky Bet League One

Date: Saturday 5th December

Kick-off: 15:00

Venue: Pirelli Stadium

Match Official: Andy Haines

Key Player: Lucas Akins

One player to keep an eye on in the Burton Albion side is attacker Lucas Akins.

The 31-year-old is the Brewers’ top goalscorer in all competitions this season with six, with four of those coming in the league, and the other two coming in cup competitions.

Akins has been at the Pirelli Stadium for a number of years, originally joining the club in 2014 from Stevenage.

Prior to his move, he has had permanent spells at Huddersfield, Hamilton Academicals, and Tranmere Rovers. He also has spent time on loan at Northwich Victoria and Partick Thistle.

Previous meeting: 03/09/2019 – Crewe Alexandra 1-3 Burton Albion (Green 87’), (Quinn 13’, Fraser 23’, Akins 45’)

Team News:

Crewe:

The Alex were boosted in the midweek win over Swindon as Mikael Mandron and Omar Beckles were named as substitutes, with Mandron coming on after 57 minutes. Callum Ainley will be out for an extended period of time, after a scan on his hamstring injury revealed a grade 3 tear.

Burton:

Jake Buxton confirmed that his side will be without striker Kane Hemmings for the fixture, but could name a similar side that won a point at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night.
