Oli Finney is hoping that the 2,000 supporters lucky enough to attend our Boxing Day fixture against Fleetwood Town can still make it a terrific atmosphere inside Gresty Road. The attacking midfielder who struck a priceless winner against Wimbledon last weekend is hoping that we can extend our winning run to four straight games and give all Alex fans more Christmas cheer.
Ahead of our Boxing Day encounter with Joey Barton’s Fleetwood, Finney told us: “The lads feel we should have more points than we have and I think that playing all the top teams and doing okay against them gave us confidence.
“We lost a few them 1-0 and had great wins over Doncaster and Peterborough and I think that showed us that we could compete because it is certainly a step up in level. It was a bit of an eye opener early on in the season and although I didn’t think we played poorly, those mistakes get punished more and you have to take your chances.
“We have had three great wins and want to keep that going on Saturday against Fleetwood. We want to get another three points.
“We know that Fleetwood are a good side and we will have to play well to get the points and keep our good run going.
“It will be great to have the fans in on Boxing Day and hopefully they can get behind us again like they have against Northampton and Plymouth. They have made a lot noise and it has helped us in those games.”
