Murph Produced A Quarter-Back Type Pass For Dons Winner

22 December 2020

Artell says experienced midfielder showed real quality to provide pass for Porterto knock down for Finney's winner.

Luke Murphy returning to the Crewe starting line-up at Wimbledon on Saturday and marked that recall by helping create the winning goal for Oli Finney in stoppage time.

His delivery into the Wimbledon penalty area was knocked down by Chris Porter and Finney tucked away the winner on the volley to seal a 2-1 win.

Artell praised the experienced midfielder’s contribution: “Murph is a terrific player and it was a great pass. It was a great header from Chris (Porter) and a great finish from Oli but Murph’s pass it impossible for the defender to challenge Chris in the air.

“I watched American Football last night and the quarter-backs have the ability to put the ball on the shoulder of the wide receiver and they do it in such a way that the line backer cannot reach it. Murph’s pass was very similar and he put the ball where it needed to go.

He added: “That is to do with quality and ability and Murph has bundles of it. We have been on at Oli to get in those positions and he has tucked that one away to give us the win which was pleasing.”
