Artell Looking For Consistent 90 Minutes

7 December 2020

David Artell is looking for more consistency over 90 minutes from his Crewe Alexandra side after two improved second halves has seen us collect four points from our last two matches. The Alex boss stressed after Saturday’s first half at Burton that he had wanted more ‘drive and determination’ from his team to go and create chances.

Although we controlled much of the second half, it took a wonderful overhead kick from Owen Dale with just two minutes remaining to salvage a point. Crewe had disappointingly conceded from a corner with 14 minutes left.

Artell told crewealex.net: “When you look at it I think we have only really played for 90 minutes over the course of the last two fixtures. We have only played to the level in the second half of both games.

“We did enough on Tuesday (against Swindon) to win the game. At Burton, we didn’t do enough and ended up drawing the game. It took something special from Owen Dale to make sure we got something in the end.

“We were far better in the second half but we wasted the first 45 minutes. We were far too passive and when they are like that then they are to expect some criticism from the manager.

“We know that if perform well over 90 minutes then we can give anyone a game. We have got to be better over the 90 minutes but I cannot be too hard on them because we have still managed to get four out of six. We can keep on doing that then I would gladly play for just 45 minutes!

He added: “We are entering a tough period because there are a lot of fixtures but it is the same for everyone and we have to crack on.”
