Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell believes that Ryan Wintle’s late winner against Northampton paved the way for our stoppage time win at Wimbledon. This time it was fellow midfielder, Oli Finney, in the right place at the right time to notch a last ditch winner for the Alex at Plough Lane.
Finney’s fourth goal of the season saw Crewe record their third straight league win and move us up to 9th in the table.
Artell says that the belief that his team are generating from late goals is really rubbing off in the dressing room.
The Alex manager told crewealex.net: “Any goal at any time does you good but I recently said that some give you a bit more. We had one at Northampton when Ryan (Wintle) scored and now Oli (Finney) has done the same. Those last minute winners certainly give you a boost.
“If it happens against you, it can sting a bit as well and I wasn’t surprised that Northampton suffered a 4-0 defeat after it, not because they are not a good side, it’s because it can sometimes carry over.
“It can happen and when you are scoring late goals like we are, it can give you tremendous belief. We beat Plymouth in the week and I just told the players to carry that momentum on and when you score a late winner it only helps with that.
“We have gone four unbeaten and that is no mean feat in this league because it is tough.
“All we can do is to keep plugging away but having the little run in December will certainly make the Christmas turkey taste better.”
