David Artell says that Crewe Alexandra’s conversion rate has to improve if we are going to be as successful as we want to be this season.
The Alex boss was pleased that his Crewe side kept going against Northampton and got their just rewards in stoppage time thanks to Ryan Wintle’s first goal of the season.
Artell told the club’s official website: “I would have been happier if we have won the game 4-1, 5-1 on Saturday than winning 2-1 with the last kick of the game.
“Our goals to chances ratio has to improve. There were a couple of them on Saturday who had two or three chances, so that is six chances and we have had to win with Ryan’s last minute winner.
“For the chances we created, it is not a good enough return. It is something we can improve on. We have to take more of our chances and if we don’t improve on that then we won’t win as many games as we should.
He added: “It was certainly the case against Ipswich and Gillingham when we have dominated the game and lost 1-0. We have to address that and I told the players after the game that we have to be better. That is certainly a work in progress.”
