Boss: "Those Last Minute Winners Do Count For More"

14 December 2020

David Artell believes that winning in the last minute does give his players a greater boost but he was disappointed to have to wait until that time to see off Northampton at Gresty Road.

Ryan Wintle’s winning goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time on Saturday finally defeated Northampton’s defensive resolve and sent Crewe up to 11th in the table.

The Crewe boss told crewealex.net: “There are some victories that come in the last minute that our worth three plus points if you like. It is important and it gives the players confidence to keep going in the next game and the next game.

“It is the same if you lose a game in the last minute. They can be stingers and the manner of the defeat lasts longer. You perhaps do not get over it until Monday afternoon when you can usually get a defeat out of the system by Sunday tea time.

“It was great for the fans on Saturday to have that last minute winner. We are in the entertaining business and I am sure they loved it. That is what football is about, that raw emotion but I wasn’t totally satisfied because it should have been 4-1, 5-1 and done and dusted way before that.

“It shows that there is work to be done.”
