David Artell has told the club’s official website that he has informed his squad that they have to show more resilience after falling behind in games. Crewe Alexandra have not been able to come back after falling behind in games this season and the Alex boss say that trait has to change going forward.
The Alex have now suffered three straight defeats to Portsmouth and Accrington in League One and then away at Cheltenham in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Ahead of our League One encounter against Swindon this evening, the Alex boss said: “We have told the players that they haven’t come from behind yet this season. It was a criticism that was labelled at us, some three or four years ago now and I remember we fought back from 2-0 down at Blackpool to draw and then won 2-1 away from home and just like that we came over that mental hurdle.
“We have spoken about this season and told them some stark truths. They know that we have dropped too many points we shouldn’t have. We had lost far too many games by the odd goal. We can say that we haven’t deserved to lose a lot of those games but we have.
“It can happen once, twice, three times a season but it has happened far too much for my liking. It is something we have to address and we will.
“I must say that by and large, the performances have been good. That was questionable on Saturday, but if we can play as well as we have done on a number of occasions this season then hopefully the results will reflect the performances more.”
