Report: Witton 0-4 Crewe

19 August 2020

The first 14 that travelled to Witton Albion secured an impressive 4-0 victory at Wincham Park, with Regan Griffiths, Oli Finney, Tyreece Onyeka and Mikael Mandron all adding to their pre-season goalscoring accounts.

On the evening, David Artell and Kenny Lunt separated their squad and staff to face Witton at 7:15pm and Nantwich Town at 7:45pm.

The gaffer’s assistant will have been pleased with how dominant his side were in the second half with three excellent goals adding to the one in the first.

Griffiths got the ball rolling deep into the first-half, after he reacted quickest to Mandron’s strike that ricochet back off the post giving Crewe the lead at half-time.

It seems keeping his players pitch side for their half-time team talk worked out for Kenny.

The Alex doubled their lead in the 67th minute, as Kirk combined well with Pickering down the left presenting a chance to Finney, who slotted home low down to the keepers right.

Remaining in the control of the game, The Railwaymen began to take advantage of a tired Witton side.

Ryan Wintle found his range in the closing minutes allowing first-year scholar, Onyeka to score his first senior goal for the Club on the half-volley.

The Reds weren’t complete there, as they immediately won the ball back from kick-off which eventually lead to Finney being brought down in the penalty area.

It was the chance Mandron had waited for all evening and he waited calmly for the Witton goalkeeper it makes his move, before slotting his penalty in the opposite corner.

Crewe: Jaaskelainen, Johnson, Offord, Woodthorpe (Trialist 60’), Pickering, Wintle, Griffiths, Finney, Onyeka, Mandron & Kirk.
