Charlie: "We Want To Give The Fans Something To Look Forward To"

3 April 2020

Alex determined to win promotion for the supporters once football resumes again.

Charlie Kirk is hoping that the terrific Alex fanbase stick with the club during these testing times because he wants to reward them with a promotion to League One. The 22-year-old believes that ‘something drastic’ would have to happen for Crewe not to be promoted with nine games of the season still to be played.

Crewe are currently top of League Two ahead of Swindon Town, who do have a game in hand, and Kirk wants to provide the supporters with ‘something to look forward to’ once football resumes again. A proposed date of April 30th is unrealistic, but Kirk remains confident that the 2019/20 season will be completed.

The 22-year-old, who has enjoyed his most consistent season to date said: “We want to finish what we set out to do at the start of the season and that is to win promotion. We understand that the season won’t be scrapped, so all we can do is remain patient and get on with it. There is no point moaning because it is out of our control.

“Of course, it is hard to take because we are top of the league with a couple of months of the season to go and I honestly think that something drastic would have to happen for us not to be promoted from this position. The lads are all confident.

“All we can ask the fans to be is patient and hopefully we can get back sooner rather than later and give them something to look forward to.

Charlie added: “Obviously, there are more serious things happening at the moment but we have to stay positive and give ourselves those things to look to forward to again.”
