Artell: "We Have To Remain Confident"

6 April 2020

David Artell has told the club’s official website that he remains confident that the 2019/20 season will be completed. The Crewe Alexandra boss says he feels 85%-95% certain that the EFL will end the current campaign before thinking about the next one. The Railwaymen currently top League Two ahead of Swindon Town, who do have a game in hand.

Artell told crewealex.net: “I remain 85% to 95% confident that the season will be completed. We are 80% through and I am sure there will be a load of factors to consider, financially, broadcasting rights, sponsorships, and legally.

“This won’t go on forever and we will have to be ready for when we come back.

“The only doubt that comes into my mind is how long the high death rate occurs and that is the most important thing to consider. The Premier League and the EFL have said we will return when it is safe to do so and that is right.

He added: “I know the Belgium league has ended but it wasn’t null and void. They honoured where everyone stood at the time and that’s a bit different. That was the middle ground. We just have to listen to the advice being given and remain patient because at the moment the most important thing is making sure people stay alive.”
