Artell: "The EFL Do Not Have To Rush Into A Decision"

22 April 2020

Artell right to say that we could be in the same situation in the Autumn when people will want a new season to start.

David Artell remains totally committed to the 2019/20 season being completed and stresses he would feel the same even if his Crewe Alexandra side were not involved in the promotion race. The Alex boss believes that the final games of the campaign have to be finished before we even contemplate thinking about starting a new season.

The Alex boss says it is imperative that the integrity of the competition continues to be upheld and he says that no one should be in any rush to come to a definite decision.

Artell told the club’s official website via video link: “I don’t think the EFL or Premier League should be in any rush. We know we have to tread carefully because the most important thing is protecting lives.

“The most important thing is that everyone remains safe and if that means the powers that be make a decision in three months then so be it. I think we should resume the season as soon as it is safe to do so.

“There will be clubs going through some severe hardship but we could be in the same situation in August, September, October, nobody really knows.

“We could restart a new season in August or September for instance but have to play behind closed doors, so nothing has changed there in terms of income streams. The problem will still exist.

“We all want football back and we all want football back safely. When that is no one is sure, so we have to be patient and sit it out like everything else at the moment.”
