Artell: "We Might Have No Choice But To Hit The Ground Running"

7 April 2020

Artell says his squad will have to be ready to go at short notice if necessary.

David Artell says that his squad will be ready to go again whenever professional football can return in a safe environment. The Alex boss believes that the longer the Covid-19 pandemic continues, the more match sharpness his players will lose - but he says that they may be left with no choice but to fulfil the nine remaining fixtures in a short space of time.

The Crewe boss told crewealex.net: “In an ideal situation we would perhaps want a friendly game to get back into things but this is unprecedented times and we may just have to get on with things.

“If the EFL tell us for instance that you are back training on 1st May and the first game is the 7th, then you won’t have time to get a friendly in. You will just have to get back in the swing of it. If they give us three weeks to prepare then that you could get a game or two in.

“I really don’t know what will happen. I am sure the players would like a friendly to get back into the swing of things but we will have to get on with things regardless if that it was is needed.”
