Artell: "We Are Still Conceding Soft Goals"

24 September 2019

Although he admits that his in-form Crewe Alexandra side are ‘going along nicely’, David Artell says that we have to cut out conceding soft goals. The Alex fell behind to Salford at the weekend following a mistake and we conceded some poor goals against Cambridge United that cost us at least a point.

Goalkeepers’ Will Jaaskelainen and David Richards have also been called upon to save penalties against Grimsby and Leyton Orient at crucial moments in games.

Artell told the club’s official website: “I would have to agree that we have given away too many soft goals. It cost us a point against Cambridge at least and we went behind on Saturday after a mistake.

“It cost us a point at Newport and we should have won that game with the possession and chances we had.

“We are all humans and we make mistakes from time to time but it is a question of limiting those mistakes.

The boss added: “It is about driving those standards and if we are not playing well then let’s make sure we do not concede a soft goal.”
