Boss David Artell has praised his players after an impressive outing at previously free-scoring Grimsby Town to record all three points & a clean sheet at Blundell Park.
Tommy Lowery & Charlie Kirk's second half goals recorded the Alex's third win from four away games so far this season - just one less than was managed in the entire 2018/19 campaign.
After the match, Artell said: “It was a professional performance from start to finish.
“Other than the penalty, I don’t think they put a shot on target on our goal. We’ve completely dominated the game from start to finish.
“I don’t know what the possession stats were, but we’ve limited the highest scorers in the league to one penalty from a mistake from us – a blatant penalty.
“I thought we were terrific, it was a thoroughly professional showing but we needed a bit more belief in the final third in the first half. At half-time we said go on then show us what you’ve got & within a minute we hit the front.
“It’s just another win, just another three points. But it’s important that we perform like that, because we’re capable of it – I’m not asking them to do anything that they can’t do. I’m asking them to do what they should do.
“We think we’re in a good place at the minute & we’ve got to continue doing it. We’ve had a good August, & we’ve got to have a good September, October, November, December & so on.”
