Youth Cup: Macclesfield 2-3 Crewe

31 October 2019

Crewe Alexandra made it through to the second round of the FA Youth Cup with a 3-2 win at Macclesfield Town this evening.

Goals from Fenton Green, Tyreece Onyeka and a Joe Robbins penalty gave Lee Bell’s side a 3-0 lead at the break and despite two goals from the home side in the second-half the Railwaymen got the win.

In truth, Crewe could have been further ahead at the break. Onyeka and Jamie Wrench had already come close for the Alex before Green rose to meet back-post to give the Alex the lead mid-way through the first-half.

1-0 quickly became 2-0 as Onyeka latched on to a neat pull-back to calmly slot home and the Railwaymen missed several more chances as they pushed for more goals at the Moss Rose.

They did get their third shortly before the break as Robbins stepped up to convert a penalty after

But after the break it was the home side that got the next goal as striker Tyler James beat keeper Andrew Walklate from the edge of the box.

And the Silkmen made it a nervy final few moments for the Alex as James added his second of the game with another tidy finish.

But there were to be no more scares for Crewe as they made it through to the second round where they will face the winners of Grimsby Town and Rugby Town who meet at Blundell Park on Friday evening.
