"These Are The Games You Want To Play In"

Boss says that Saturday's top of the table clash is one his side are relishing

David Artell says that Saturday’s top of the table clash against Exeter City are the type of games you want to be involved with as a professional footballer. Matt Taylor’s Grecians arrive in South Cheshire this weekend on top of the league courtesy of their goal difference of one over Crewe Alexandra.

It is sure to be another memorable occasion and atmosphere at Gresty Road and Artell says that his players will be relishing it and the chance to go top on their own accord.

The Alex boss told the club’s official website: “As a player these are the games you want to play in. I wish I was 25 again and fit as a fiddle, so I could play!

“I remember when I was 19 at Rotherham and we had to play Millwall at the New Den. We were both in the top three and I remember it was a full house and the atmosphere was terrific. The ground was virtually full at 2pm and we had to get off the coach and have the young kids tell us exactly what they thought of us!

“It is something I had never experienced before and was a great learning curve because we lost heavily. We didn’t handle the occasion very well. It was a real test.

“We then had them at Millmoor and we battered them because we had learned how to handle the occasion better.

The boss added: “Regardless of the result on Saturday, I think we have already shown that we are a half decent side who can compete and it will be about what we do in the next 30 games and not just depend on what happens on Saturday but it should be enjoyed because this is what you want to be involved in as a professional footballer.”
