Wellens Has Made Swindon Serious Contenders

16 October 2019

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell believes that the appointment of Richie Wellens as manager has converted Swindon Town into genuine promotion contenders this season. The Railwaymen host 7th placed Swindon at the weekend and it should be another top occasion at Gresty Road.

Wellens' side are only five points off top placed Crewe.

Wellens succeeded Phil Brown as boss in November and he has used the loan market wisely to strengthen his squad with the likes of prolific marksman Eoin Doyle and our former midfielder Anthony Grant.

Ahead of this weekend’s fixture, the boss told crewealex.net: “Swindon bought Richie in to turn their fortunes around and they have made a right fist of it. They are a good side with good players.

“They will come with plenty of energy. They will press and get into our faces because Richie was a competitor when he was a player. His side will mirror him but they play good football as well.

He added: “It will be a tough game and they will be there or thereabouts but we respect them but do not fear them.”
