Harry Pickering has told crewealex.net that the players want to get the three points against Exeter City this weekend to make sure we go top-of-the-league at this early stage of the season.
The Alex were denied top spot last weekend due to Exeter City’s late consolation goal at home to Grimsby Town, but Pickering says that we now have the perfect chance to make an early statement about our intentions by beating the Grecians.
Exeter suffered their first defeat of the season against Grimsby last weekend and Matt Taylor’s outstanding side will be aiming to bounce back in perfect fashion against one of their early rivals.
It is all set-up.
Harry told the club’s official website: “We showed some great character at Cheltenham last week after the start we made to the game and then with the sending off.
“We bounced back well from going a goal down and looked like we might go on to win the game but the red card for Pez changed that.
“We had to stick in there and dug in to make sure we got something. We want to be top. Who wouldn’t? We now have the opportunity to do that with a massive game against Exeter and these are the games you want be involved in, to test yourself against the best teams in the league.
“We can get the result and go top of the league then that would show where we are as a team and make a statement.
Pixie added: “Exeter are always a strong team but we have to show how good we are. If we can play like we have been doing for most of the season then we are a match for anyone and hopefully it will be much the same this weekend.”
