David Artell wants his Crewe Alexandra side to remain alive in the Leasing.Com Trophy with a positive result at Mansfield Town this evening.
Crewe lost their opening group fixture 3-1 to League One Burton Albion, so another defeat at the One Call Stadium would end our hopes of progressing to the knockout stages of the competition we won back in 2013.
Artell told the club’s official website: “The money on offer in the competition is significant to the smaller clubs and we want to go as far as we can in the competition.
“I will pick a team to try and win the game. A few will get a chance to stake their claim as well, so there is plenty to play for.
“It is my duty to try and win the game and if we can then we will take it to the final game.
“It will be hard to predict Mansfield’s team because they made plenty of changes in their first game and changed the shape.
“We will have to look at their team when we get it on the night but we will look at their games and see if we can spot some trends to their play and patterns. “
