Lunt: "Nothing Changes Because It Is A Derby Game"

29 October 2019

Assistant manager starts the build-up to Saturday's showdown at Gresty Road.

Crewe Alexandra’s assistant manager Kenny Lunt says that ‘nothing changes’ in preparation for the first Cheshire/Staffordshire derby of the season.

Crewe Alexandra host Port Vale on Saturday hoping that a win will consolidate our place at the top of the League Two table.

The Railwaymen didn’t have a fixture at the weekend due to Forest Green Rovers’ pitch falling foul of the grim weather and Lunt says that having no fixture has allowed one or two to recharge their batteries ahead of derby weekend.

Lunt told crewealex.net: “There are pros and cons to the game being postponed at Forest Green. It may have given some of them a rest and has allowed us to recharge the batteries but on the other hand on the run we have been on, you cannot wait to play and keep that momentum going.

“Nothing really changes because of it. We gave the players a little rest over the weekend and were then bang on it again on Monday morning. Everything is geared to the weekend and Port Vale.

He added: “With our game being called off, me and Dave (Artell) were able to go and watch Port Vale take on Oldham to see what they do and they were a bit unlucky not to win the game. They had the better of the chances but we were able to take away things from the game that we can put in place on Saturday. “
