Boss Pleased With Subs Contribution

21 October 2019

David Artell was quick to praise the contribution of his substitutes on Saturday after they helped continue the building momentum to make sure we got all three points against Swindon.

Crewe’s intense pressure and possession paid off in the end with Chris Porter putting us 2-1 in the 90th minute and then Charlie Kirk taking full advantage of a defensive mistake to race clear and score his fourth goal of the campaign to round the scoring off in stoppage time.

David told the club’s official website: “The substitutes continued the momentum on Saturday and that is what we needed them to do.

“Last week at Carlisle, James Jones changed the game back into our favour and Chuma has come off the bench and scored but Saturday was different because we were already well on top.

“I thought Olly came on and did fine. He made one short back pass that Doyle nearly got but he recovered and he didn’t make a mistake after that.

“He has very little football over the last two weeks, so he was fine.

“Jonah kept that momentum going and I thought Callum Ainley was terrific. Owen had ran his socks off and the wide players usually do most of the high intensity running so that takes if out of their legs more.

“I thought Callum asked plenty of questions of Swindon. He only played about 15 minutes but he came on and helped create more and that is important.

“I told them all after the game that they have to keep pushing to start games. They are all important to us and we will need them all.”
