Artell: "We Thoroughly Deserved The Points Today"

19 October 2019

David Artell says his side deserved all three points as they fought back from an Eoin Doyle goal before the break to go on and win the game 3-1 thanks to a brace from Chris Porter and a well taken finish Charlie Kirk following a poor defensive error.

Following another superb comeback, David told the club’s official website: “I think we deserved the three points today and we were very good from start to finish. They scored against the run of play but unlikely the Exeter game, I didn’t think we deserved to concede the first goal.

“It shows the quality of Doyle but there were little things that we could have done better with in the build-up but he finished it well. He is a good finisher but I just told the players at half time that they just had to keep going and to keep doing what they were doing.

“I wanted them to keep the ball, be patient and when you are as dominant in possession as we were then we are going to create chances and we wore them down in the end.

“They kept the ball, kept the pressure on and we thought that it would only be a matter of time and so it proved. We had to be wary of Swindon as well because they have good players and they set up to make things hard for us.

“Porter is a goalscorer and his goal return is not part for a spring chicken and his second goal was a great finish. It was a good save and Chris has had to adjust his feet to slide it over the line.

“We found those holes in Swindon in the end and thoroughly deserved to win the game. Kirky was getting some stick from their gaffer all afternoon, so he blew him a kiss when he scored. That is what floats his boat and that is fine and it was another good finish from Charlie. He deserved his goal and he keeps getting chances.

“It is great that we are sharing the goals about.

“I hope the feel good factor continues. If it isn’t there now then I don’t know when they will get it. We have made a good start and that is all it was and the players got their rewards today and all credit to them.

On Nicky Hunt, Artell revealed: “Nicky tried to carry on but he had to go off. He has some swelling on his knee but we hoping that it is not a serious as we feared. He won’t be dancing tonight, but I am not sure he does anyway. We will look at him again tomorrow and then Monday and then make a decision about Tuesday.”
