Artell: "The Supporters Were Immense, I Thought They Were Incredible"

12 October 2019

David Artell paid tribute to the travelling Crewe Alexandra fans after his side recorded a impressive 4-2 on the road at Carlisle United.

465 Crewe followers packed into one corner of Brunton Park to back the boys & the troop didn't stop singing for 90 minutes to help inspire the players on to the victory.

Artell said: "The supporters were immense, I thought they were incredible. They never shut up.

"Whoever put £400 behind the bar never invited me! I cannot fault them, they were terrific, even the carotts.

"It helps, I promise you. Go and get a Carlisle player and ask him about their crowd, because that’s the opposite. Did it help them?

"Sometimes you need a little ‘you’re doing alright son’ rather than a ‘you’re rubbish’. It helps.

"By and large, we made some mistakes, but it was a pleasing day. We are disappointed with the first 20 minutes of the second half, but for 70 minutes we were terrific.

"When Hunty was a kid he was a striker, so you’d be surprised how effective he is in front of goal in training.

"In terms of Daniel [Powell] we have been telling him all week to be selfish when he gets into position. He has really good techniques and he hit it sweet and true. That’s what we want from him and I thought he was good.

"We’re top of the league, but there’s more, there’s always more."
