Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell believes that the news that the club could be open to new investment is a major step in the right direction. Artell is please that a potential financial agreement has been agreed in principle with the club’s majority shareholder Norman Hassall and that will allow the supporters to have a greater voice and input too.
David told the club’s official web-site: "It has been going on for a long time and I know various directors have been working extremely hard, the chairman and Charles (Grant) in particular, to take steps forwards.
"An agreement is in place and we are hoping that the road map going forward is smooth and we get to where we need to be, however long that takes.
"It's a major step forward, everyone appreciates and understand the gravity of the step that has been taken.
"The chairman and directors also know they are custodians of this great football club.
"Out of 91 clubs I think something like 48 have been in administration, and we haven't and it's a big feather in their cap that that's the case.
"That's always been their first remit, and this will give the chairman and the board greater control of their strategic planning and financial forecasts and our own corporate governance will be better.
He added: "It's just a chapter that is coming to an end. I just hope it is all amicable and everyone goes their separate ways as smoothly as possible."
