Richie Has Made Swindon More Of A Potent Threat This Season

18 October 2019

David Artell says that Swindon Town have continued to evolve under their relatively new manager Richie Wellens. The former Oldham boss succeeded Phil Brown back in November and he has certainly strengthened his squad in the summer window with some good signings.

Artell expects another tough home encounter against a Swindon side, who currently occupy one of the play-off positions.

The Crewe boss said: “Swindon have changed under Richie. They have evolved and that is down to him and his ideas. He likes his teams to play football but they are competitive with that as well.

“I think they are more of a potent force this season. The two lads up front, Yates and Doyle have 14 goals between them already, so we know they are a major threat but they are not the only ones. If you look after those two, they do have other good players who can hurt you.

“We won 2-1 down there towards the end of last season and we deserved to have won by more and we would have done but for one man.

“Do I expect that again? No. I think Swindon have improved since then, but so have we.

David concluded: “I am sure Richie will be saying the same to his players and I think it is set up to be a really entertaining game.”
