Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell has praised the club’s amazing support at Carlisle United last weekend and he has reiterated how much of a part the fans are going to pay this season.
Almost 500 Crewe fans made some real noise at Brunton Park on Saturday and they helped inspire us to a deserved 4-2 win – a result that saw us go top of the league.
Artell told the club’s official website: “The fans were unbelievable on Saturday. For the first half an hour they never shut up. It was like we had a gospel choir in the away end and most of them were in fancy dress. They were absolutely terrific for us.
“They make such a difference. I said that after the game. Ask the Carlisle players if it made a difference to them to hear the grumbles coming from their fans when they are 2-0 down at half-time.
“When the fans get behind our players like that, it makes a massive difference. They probably don’t know how much it actually does. I’ve been a player and I know what it means to have support like that.
“It gives you a massive lift. When we came out for the second half against Exeter you could hear the roar from the Main Stand. It was like here we go and the performance improved.
“It is all part of it and where we want to go. When they shout, sing and applaud the players and not just sit there, it helps them.”
