Artell: "Fringe Contingent Will Get Their Oppotunities"

7 October 2019

David Artell has had the luxury of naming a pretty settled side for the majority of our games this season, but he has reiterated that he will need most of his players at some point during the campaign.

Some of his fringe contingent may even get an opportunity against Mansfield Town in the Leasing.com Trophy tomorrow evening and the Crewe manager wants them to stake their claim by performing well.

The boss says that it is good to have disappointed players inside his dressing room and he says they have to continue to training properly and push those ahead of them.

Artell told crewealex.net: “I’ve said all along that we will need most of them at some point. It is what I genuinely believe. There are going be players who are not playing or not in the squad who will be disappointed. I understand that.

“But I would introduce them to Tom Lowery, who didn’t play for 20, 25 games last season and he wasn’t out in the cold or however you want to dress it up.

“He trained properly and waited for his chance. It can quickly turn around. They will all have a part to play.

The boss added: “We have the likes of Travis, Rio, Owen Dale, Oli Finney, Callum Ainley and Josh Lundstram all waiting for their opportunities and it may be that one of those who goes on to have the same sort of impact that Tom has had.”
