Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell was pleased with Christian Mbulu’s debut for the club against Everton Under-21s in the Leasing.com Trophy. The club’s latest signing was handed his first start just days after signing as a free agent and performed well until he was forced off with cramp with minutes remaining on the clock.
Crewe didn’t do enough to progress in the competition after being held to a 2-2 draw against the Everton youngsters, but it was a positive to finally see Mbulu mark his debut.
The Alex boss told the club’s official website: “Christian made a good debut just days after coming back. There has been an injury to Olly (Lancashire) and we thought that Christian would come in and help us and improve us.
“He certainly offers us something different. He is far more physical than our defenders and heads anything. He did well until he blew up in the last 10, 15 minutes. He was knackered but that is acceptable because he has only just come back to us.
“He had a good night and we are pleased to have him back.”
