'Imperative To Remain Ice Cool'

1 November 2019

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says it is imperative that players keep their ‘emotions in check’ when it comes to playing in local derbies.

Artell featured in four derby matches against Port Vale during his time as captain with us and he stresses the importance of remaining ice cool in a red hot atmosphere.

David told crewealex.net: “Keeping your cool and remaining disciplined is important in every game but we know that there is something extra on a local derby. It is important to keep those emotions in check and remain ice cold in your decision making.

“There is a line and it is important not to cross it and run the risk of a yellow or red card. It should be a terrific atmosphere and you have to channel that into a real positive.

He added: “We have shown over the last 18 months that Gresty Road is a tough place to come for visiting teams to get something and we want to continue that tomorrow against our neighbours because they will want to come to the home of the league leaders and upset the apple cart.”
