Artell: "We Took No Chances With Chuma"

22 November 2019

David Artell has told the club’s official website that the club took no chances with forward Chuma Anene after he suffered a late head injury against Northampton last weekend.

The striker had only come on a substitute for Paul Green before he was involved in a hefty aerial collision with Jordan Turnbull.

After receiving treatment on the pitch, Anene was taken off as a precaution for the last few minutes and a later scan gave him the all clear.

Artell told the club’s official website: “Chuma suffered a nasty bang on the head at Northampton and that is why he hasn’t featured for the Under-23s or in the Cheshire Senior Cup since.

“We took him off at Northampton because we do the right thing of our players. There is an FA directive in relation to head injuries and suspected concussion and we took no chance. There is no point. Their lad played on after being knocked out and that is up to them to worry about, but we wouldn’t be doing that with our players.

He added: “Chuma had a scan with their club doctor afterwards and passed it. He is fine now and available for selection this weekend.”
