David Artell says that last night’s slight alteration to the formation was a useful exercise. The Alex boss made a change in his tactics to add another string to the bow of his squad and he says that it little to do with recent results, where Crewe have failed to score in the last two games.
That ended with two goals against Everton Under-21s with Callum Ainley and Owen Dale on target for the first time this season.
Artell was pleased that his players picked up the subtle changes quickly and he says that it will be a useful tactic to have in hand.
The Alex boss told the club’s official website: “There are lessons to be learnt and we did something slightly different, it wasn’t massively different and it had nothing to do really with recent results.
“We just wanted to try something slightly different and we were pleased with the way the players picked it up. For some it was the first time they had implemented it in a game and it was the best way to go against Everton.
He added: “We wanted to get players playing in their best roles and there were some good performances. “
