Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says he is not surprised that Christian Mbulu has settled into life back at Crewe. Following an injury to Olly Lancashire, Artell reinvestigated the possibly of signing the former Motherwell and Millwall on a short term deal.
The 23-year-old has signed until the New Year.
Mbulu made his debut against Everton Under-21s in the Leasing.com Trophy and retained his place ahead of the injured Eddie Nolan for Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Accrington Stanley.
Mbulu played admirably at the Wham Stadium and helped Crewe record a deserved 2-0 win.
Artell told the club’s official website: “I am not surprised by Christian’s performance. The first thing is that we have seen him and he knows all about us. He was with us for a long time in the summer and we know his strengths and weaknesses.
“He understands the narrative and meaning and can take things on board very quickly. He has some very good attributes and knows his limitations. He has plenty to work on but he works hard and wants to improve.
“He has been at Millwall and in Scotland with Motherwell, so he comes with pedigree.
“It is all about opportunity and there is one there for Christian.”
