Artell'; "The FA Cup Is Still Magical"

8 November 2019

David Artell is looking forward to this weekend’s FA Cup tie at Accrington Stanley as a  chance to progress in what he describes as the ‘oldest and best competition in the world’.

Artell is looking to get into the hat for the second round and at the same time get a cash injection after exiting the Leasing.com Trophy at the group stage on Tuesday night.

Ahead of our first round clash at the Wham Stadium, the boss said: “It is a big game and we have to make sure we win.

“Accrington are a league above us but we are on a good run, so we will have to make sure that continues.

“For me the FA Cup is the oldest and best knockout competition in the world. I know that some of the Premier League sides do not appreciate the true value of it because they are after riches elsewhere and that is their prerogative but for us and Accrington it can be vital.

“Accrington have a good history in the FA Cup and we need some of that here. There is a magic to the FA Cup and the dynamitic throws up upsets. There will be a League Two club or League One club going out to non-league opposition somewhere. It will happen somewhere.

He added: “We face a club that is in a higher league, so there is the challenge there for us and it is one we are looking forward to.”
