Artell: "Everton Test Is Perfect Tonic To Get Over Vale Loss"

5 November 2019

Boss says cup-tie against Everton Under-21s comes at an ideal time.

David Artell is targeting two cup wins this week to quickly erase the disappointment of losing our first derby fixture of the season at the weekend. Crewe were beaten 1-0 by Port Vale on Saturday after Jake Taylor scrambled home the winner from a corner.

The defeat leaves Crewe in fourth place in Sky Bet League Two but Artell is not turning his focus to two cup encounters against Everton U-21s tomorrow in the EFL Trophy and then Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup.

The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “It is about being professional and going again. We have a test against a good Everton side and we want to win the game.

“The incentive is to win the game and then look after what we need to do after that. The objective is to win it first.

“In fact, we want to win both cup games this week and get back to winning ways. You can spin things whichever way you want and say that the league is more important and all that but we want to win games of football regardless of what competition it is. "
