Boss On Polished Performance At Wham Stadium

Boss says 2-0 win flattered home side in outstanding FA Cup win

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell has told the club’s official website that our 2-0 win at the Wham Stadium flattered the home side in the end because we had enough chances to have scored more on the day.

Chris Porter hit the post in the first half and Owen Dale, Ryan Wintle and Tom Lowery all had good openings to make the margin more comfortable than it was.

Following our impressive FA Cup first round victory, Artell said: “We were the better team. We were the better team in the first half and the only criticism was that we were not further ahead at half time.

“Then after all the goings on at half time, irrespective of what happened we were better the side in the second half and that is why we had the penalty and their lad was sent off because we were clean through twice.

“The players did really well on what was a testing afternoon. In fact I thought all the players conducted themselves well. In the end, we thoroughly deserved to win and the 2-0 score line flattered them.

He added: “We worked on certain things to create those chances and we have to take more of them but that is the only downside on what was a very good performance from us.”
