"Delighted To Trigger Green Extension"

3 May 2019

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell has told the club’s official website that he is delighted that veteran midfielder Paul Green will remain with us for at least another 12 months after having his option triggered yesterday.

Green, 36, has made 25 appearances this season and his contract stipulated that he had make 30 to earn himself an extra year but after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury away at Carlisle United back in late August that limited his chances of executing the clause.

Manager David Artell rewarded the former Eire International by triggering it anyway and he is pleased to have the experienced midfield man with us for next season.

He told the club’s official website: “Paul had a clause in his contract that if he played 30 games that it would trigger an automatic extension. Following his serious knee injury it became obvious that it would be difficult for him to make the games, so we triggered it anyway.

“I am delighted for him, delighted for the club and delighted for the fans because he is an important player for us. He has been terrific since he came here. He is fit as a fiddle and is a great pro.

He added: “When you see that he was on the back from a cruciate injury after about three months, played a couple of games, rested for three and then has been available for every game since is  a great credit to him.”
