"There Won't Be Wholesale Changes For Final Game"

3 May 2019

David Artell has revealed that preparations for our final game of the season have not altered because there is nothing riding on the game for both sides. In the last four matches, Crewe have been involved against teams at the bottom of the table or those aiming for promotion or a place in the play-offs.

Crewe Alexandra have continued to protect the need for competition by making few changes and collecting 12 points from a possible 12. It is testimony to the high demands and standards Artell has expected of his squad in the run-in.

Ahead of our final trip to Grimsby this weekend, the boss said: “We were very mindful of the fact that with five games left and coming on the back of the performance at Port Vale that we wanted to end the season well.

“We wanted to win the games and take that momentum into next season. I think it is important and the players have taken that on board and responded.

“I have still had the opportunity to test and try a few things without making wholesale changes. It will be the same for the final game of the season. I may make one or two changes but I won’t be making wholesale changes.

“The players that have performed recently and helped us win the last four games are in  there on merit. They deserve to have the shirt and play the last game.

“I won’t be making ridiculous changes and those that play have earned the right to. They are in a professional environment there are winners and losers and if you are not in the team or in the squad then it is up to you to do better, to do more next season.

He added: “I will pick a team to win the game and will certainly not be exposing anyone who is not ready for that chance.”
