Assistant manager Kenny Lunt says the club’s recruitment drive has been well on the way for months.

Crewe Alexandra released their retain list this week and Lunt knows that the squad needs strengthening in key areas.

Lunt told the club’s official website: “A few players have left us who were in or around the team so we know we have to strengthen this summer.

“A lot will also depend on if someone leaves this summer. You never know who might come in for our players.

“The spine of the team is very important and we will bring in players to help the others. We want those right characters and the right people with a strong mentality.

Kenny added: “We have targets and that list was devised months ago. Some may come out of nowhere if you like and we will be ready for every eventuality. “
