Sterry: "We Still Have A Chance"

7 March 2019

On-loan Newcastle youngster not ruling out us gatecrashing the play-offs at the last minute - but he knows we have to go on some run now.

The on-loan full-back, Jamie Sterry, appreciates it will be a tough task to break into the top seven now, but the Newcastle youngster is not ruling anything out.

Sterry marked his second debut for the club after coming into the side at left-back against Northampton Town on Saturday and although the performance of the team in that first half and the result were not what we wanted, Sterry is hoping he did enough to keep his place.

Jamie told the club’s official website: “It has been tough not playing but you also learn from it. I understood it because the team were doing well but it is still not easy because I want to play. I think I have been good professionally, trained well every day and kept myself going really well.

“You have to keep going and wait for that chance and then take it when it comes. It is all about mental strength and that is a big part of the game. I think I’ve learnt a lot and when you are not in the team you have to focus on what you can do to get in.

“We have lost some ground with those two home defeats but we still have a chance and we will keep going all the way until the end of the season. You never know in this game but we know we have to put a run together.

“We have to get back to winning ways and from what I’ve seen, if we do what we are best at then we can beat the best in this league. The lads have proved it.

Jamie added: “It is another tough game at Tranmere but one we are looking forward to. We have a chance to put things right after what happened last weekend when we didn’t play as well as we can, and Tranmere is a big club and it should be a good game.”
