Six Goals Does Not Mask The Fact That We Need To Be More Clinical

19 March 2019

David Artell says that the six goals we scored against Crawley Town on Saturday should not mask the fact that we need to be ruthless in front of goal. Crewe blitzed the Red Devils to score five goals in the space of 11 minutes and emphatically end a run of four games without a win with a 6-1 win.

Artell was pleased with our overall performance after the first half an hour but says that he would much have preferred the goals to have been spread evenly over the last few games.

David told the club’s official website: “I said after the game on Saturday that we are capable of that. We have threatened to do that on a number of occasions this year and to score six goals for a second time this season is good, but it does not hide the fact that we have to be more ruthless in front of goal.

“We have to become more clinical and consistent with that. I would much prefer to have scored two or three in all the games instead.

“If we had scored at Cambridge and won 1-0 or scored two at Yeovil when we should have, and won at Crawley like we should have done and held on at Macclesfield then we would have been in the play-offs now just on the back of those four results.

“That is where we are at the minute and we have to get the right side of the line in those nip and tuck games more often.

He added: “I am diminishing the result or the performance for an hour on Saturday because it was a good afternoon and great to score goals but we have be  more consistent.”
