Jamie Sterry’s loan spell at Crewe Alexandra has been prematurely ended after his parent club Newcastle United recalled him.

The full-back made one appearance for Crewe at left-back in the 2-0 home loss to Northampton and was an unused substitute in five other games after finding it difficult to displace Perry Ng and Harry Pickering from the full-back positions.

Sterry had more success in his first loan spell with the club last season when he featured in nine appearances as Crewe eased away from relegation trouble.

The 23-year-old defender will be permitted to play in Under-23 matches for Newcastle United and everyone at Crewe wishes Jamie all the best in his future career.
