"Friday Night Fixture Made Sense"

7 March 2019

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says he doesn’t mind playing on a Friday night at Prenton Park. The Alex agreed to the fixture switch back in the summer and Artell says he can see the benefits of playing under the lights to create a better atmosphere.

Crewe head to Prenton Park tomorrow evening, aiming to bounce back from two back-to-back defeats at home to Exeter City and Northampton Town.

Micky Mellon’s sixth placed side will be looking for the points to keep their play-off hopes alive and with a bumper crowd expected and another wonderful following from Crewe, it is sure to be another intriguing contest on the Wirral.

David told crewealex.net: “When Tranmere came to us in the summer and suggested moving the fixture to a Friday night, we sat down to discuss it and when we looked at it, we thought why not?

“It is under the lights which will help the atmosphere. Our players perform better in front of bigger crowds and it gives us an extra day ahead of the trip to Cambridge on the Tuesday night. I think it will be a bit different but it will be something to look forward to as well.

“I’m told we have going to have another strong following and I hope our fans make as much noise as they did at Macclesfield and Oldham when they were terrific. It should be a cracking atmosphere and we want the three points this time, not just one.”
