Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell has told the club’s official website that he was pleased that Ollie Finney showed flashes of his Under-23 form for the first team at Cambridge United. Finney replaced veteran midfielder Paul Green for the final ten plus minutes of the game at the Abbey Stadium and the Stoke-born Finney nearly stole the points with a late chance.
Finney has been in superb goalscoring form for the Under-23s this season and that has seen him handed chances at first-team level this season. Finney has made 13 appearances this season, making his first league start at Northampton back in November.
David told crewealex.net: “Ollie got in the position to have that chance. He has done that on numerous occasions for the Under-23s this season and scored goals. If it had been for the Under-23s he may have well poked that one in.
“Ollie was there and he deserves massive credit for being in that position. He now has to transfer his goalscoring form for the Under-23s onto the first-team pitch. That is his next challenge to earn a place in the team.”
