Finney Determined To Impress And Stay On At Crewe

19 March 2019

Ollie Finney certainly made the right impression when starting a league game at Gresty Road for the first time on Saturday.

The 21-year-old couldn’t quite produce the goal his overall performance probably deserved, but he is hoping his form will now see him presented with more opportunities to shine before the end of the season.

Finney’s current contract expires soon and the Stoke-born midfielder, who has scored 11 goals for the Under-23s this season is hoping he can impress enough to earn himself an extension.

Finney told iFollow the Alex: “I do feel a lot more part of it this season, we’ll just have to see whether I’ve done enough to get a new contract.

“Hopefully I’ve done enough to stay in the team for the next game.

“I loved it. I had a couple of chances but all that matters is the three points.

“The more I play the more chances I’ll get to create and score goals, and that’s what Kenny (Lunt) told me I’m in the team for.”

“I’m still only young really. Yes there are lads in the team who are my age who have played a lot more games, but if you look at other club’s there are not many 21-year-olds who are playing.

“I just think it is a learning curve, and it makes you want to go in training and train harder and harder because you haven’t cracked it.

Ollie added: “You have to keep working hard and get as good as you can.”
