Artell: "We Showed Great Endeavour"

12 March 2019

Crewe Alexandra Manager David Artell said his side were made to rue their lack of clinical edge after they were held to a 0-0 draw at Cambridge United.

The Alex spurned several good openings at The Abbey Stadium & Artell was left disheartened by the final score after the efforts shown.

He said: “It feels like a defeat. I don’t think 3-0 by the end of the game would have flattered us. If it was a boxing match it would have been stopped after an hour.

“We showed great endeavour but lacked that quality and ruthlessness. We had some glorious chances, with Shaun (Miller) and obviously Chris (Porter) and Oli (Finney) at the end.

“As a collective team everyone has to be culpable and take responsibility for it being 0-0. We did well defensively but weren’t ruthless at the other end.

“I’m not blaming individuals; we still created plenty but didn’t have that killer instinct. We couldn’t get the goal we deserved.”
