Artell: "We Haven't Kept A Clean Sheet In A While"

8 March 2019

David Artell says that back-to-back home defeats to Exeter City and Northampton Town have clearly illustrated that there is still a lot of work to do be done. The Alex boss takes his Crewe side to Tranmere this evening for an intriguing Friday night fixture.

After a fantastic unbeaten run reaching seven games, the Alex have hit the buffers over the last two weekends and Artell is hoping his side can record a third away win of the season. The Alex boss is hoping we can also secure a first clean sheet in six games, with the last being achieved in that 1-0 away win at the MK Dons.

David told crewealex.net:  “We have perhaps been a bit unfortunate with some of the goals we have conceded in recent weeks but we haven’t kept a clean sheet for a while.

“When the ball hits Chris Porter’s heal and flies into our net inside a crowded box then you cannot legislate for that. Last sea against Northampton we didn’t put out bodies on the line enough to make sure the ball didn’t end up in our net. We didn’t do it enough.

“So there is plenty to work on. We have to make sure those crosses do not go in our box in the first place and then make sure it is out head on it if they do come  in. There is lots to work on and that is what we are where we are.”
