Artell: "We Don't Look At Tranmere's Position And Talk About Must Win"

6 March 2019

David Artell says he isn’t considering Tranmere Rovers’ league position when it comes to our meeting on Friday evening.

Crewe Alexandra have suffered back-to-back home defeats but still remain eight points adrift of the play-offs. The Railwaymen still possess an outside chance of sneaking intp the top seven, but will need to go on some run to achieve it with just 11 games remaining.

Micky Mellon’s Tanmere Rovers side are right in the thick of the promotion race. They are currently sixth in the table following a terrific first season back in the EFL.

Ahead of our Friday night meeting at Prenton Park, Artell said: “I don’t really look at the table to see where we are or where Tranmere are. They have had a terrific first season back in the Football League and they are right up.

“We cannot look at their position and say it is a must win. We just have to focus on ourselves and making sure we win games of football. We want to move up the table and we are not looking at anyone else. We want to move away from where we are, move to mid-table, 12th, 10th and then see where we are.

“There is always a tag line to every game you play. If we beat Tranmere we will be such and such points behind them or when we play Port Vale that would put us such and such points ahead of them.

“That happens every week but it isn’t something we think about. We just focus on what we want to do.”
